Commercial skincare formulas are also formulated to be manufactured efficiently and consistently at scale.

For more than three decades, as a winemaker, my role was to preserve the inherent integrity of what nature had already created through considered minimal intervention.

Within a grape seed exists an extraordinary network of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, phytonutrients and countless biological interactions that science is still working to understand.

Once biological integrity is lost, it cannot simply be engineered back by recombining ingredients. Think of it like artisan, naturally fermented sourdough bread vs supermarket sliced white bread. The sourdough is made with whole ingredients, whole flour, yeast, water and time. The supermarket white bread is constructed from isolated ingredients, refined flour combined with emulsifiers, preservatives and additives. They may contain the same macronutrients but the biological complexity of the supermarket white bread has been lost. One nourishes the other adds calories.
The principle of preserving biological integrity extends far beyond skincare.
It applies to vineyards.
To ecosystems.
