Business for good

Responsibility - A foundational value for Vitis V brand and our business principles.

Our ethos is grounded in the belief that the highest quality skincare should be waste-free, respect nature and all human beings. We care for and contribute meaningfully to the world. Because minimalism can and does lead to maximum results when it’s pure, clean and nutrient rich for our customers and the planet.

Responsibility is built into our foundation and ethos. This includes donating 2% of sales (not profit ...sales) as unrestricted funds to causes that we believe in.

Beat the Microbead a campaign by Plastic Soup Foundation has been a recipient of Vitis V's business for good donation.

Plastic Soup Foundation, a UN Environment Programme accredited non-governmental organization based in the Netherlands and founded in February 2011. It is a non-profit organization located in Amsterdam that focuses on stopping plastic pollution at the source worldwide.

Beat the Microbead it should be called Beat the Microplastics, as microplastics should be treated in the same way as microbeads. They are persistent bio-accumulative and toxic. Beat the Microbead campaign has an app that you can scan ingredient lists of personal care products to learn about what you are potentially applying to your skin and into your body.
Investigate what is in your skincare. Download the app here.

They have complied a list of more than 500 microplastics used in skincare, cosmetics and personal care products.

Beat the Microbead has identified that liquid microplastics (synthetic polymers) are added to 87% of personal care products (shampoo/conditioner/toothpaste/cosmetics) in the EU. “In some cases, plastic can constitute up to 90% of the ingredients added to a cosmetic product.” Read more (https://www.beatthemicrobead.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Plastic-TheHiddenBeautyIngredients.pdf)

The science of climate change was evident in the 1970's and it has taken the world more than 50 years to collectively action. We can debate if there is enough progress, what is indisputable is that corrective action was to slow.

It is evident that plastic pollution is destroying our ecosystems. Recycling in not the answer. Stopping plastic before manufacture and consumption needs to be part of the solution, including the removal from skincare and personal care products both in ingredients and packaging. Please scan your products and consider your choices. Many small individual actions can result in systemic change.

Together, we are aiming for progress not perfection. Continual, collective progress of removing plastic from our lives and the planet.

It’s never a completed task. Our commitment to reduce our environmental impact is one we continually seek to improve alongside our suppliers: less plastic, renewable energy sources, more recycled content, less processing and more natural alternatives. We will always ask the question ‘What can we do better?’ of ourselves and those we work with.

Quoting Dr Suess in The Lorax (1971) “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.
